How to fill a pouffe?

What is the best way to fill your pouffe? Everyone has their own preferences about how a pouffe should sit. Some like a nice soft footstool that you sink into a little. The other finds a firm footstool more comfortable. In this blog, we explain which options there are for creating the perfect footstool, and give tips & tricks!

Types of pouffe filling

A pouffe can basically be filled with all kinds of materials, each type of filling has specific properties, and the choice of filling depends on individual preferences. In Morocco, they use various materials to fill pouffes. Traditionally, they reuse old materials such as; old clothes, unusable sheets or towels for this purpose. These materials give the pouffe a full and sturdy shape and look. And it is a good way to contribute to circularity and sustainability. For a slightly softer seat, newspapers or plastic bags can also be used. In addition, polyester, polyether, foam blocks and natural fibre are also often used for a softer, more resilient seat; you can find these materials in a fabric shop.

Getting started with stuffing your pouffe

With these 5 easy steps, we explain how to stuff your pouffe:

  • Choose your pouffe filling and make sure the materials are dry and clean.
  • Unzip the bottom of the pouffe and push it all the way open in the right shape.
  • Start filling around the edges so that all small spaces are completely filled.
  • Keep adding layers of material evenly while pushing them down firmly until the pouffe is completely filled. The more filling, the rounder the pouffe!
  • Zip the pouffe up again and test it out!

If the leather pouffe looks good and you are comfortable, you are good to go. Time to enjoy your showpiece! Of course, a pouffe is not just for sitting on. Pouffes are multifunctional, you can also use it as a table, footstool or simply as a beautiful decoration. Read more about this in our blog on Moroccan pouffes.

Note! A common mistake made when stuffing a pouffe is that people often do not use enough filling. So use enough stuffing.
