Beni Ouarain Rugs

Currently, the Beni Ouarain rugs are the most popular floor coverings from Morocco. These rugs are named after a village called ‘Beni Ouarain’ in the Mid-Atlas Mountains. You can easily recognize these vintage rugs by their ivory-white color and black (often checkered) patterns. Additionally, these rugs often feature fringes on the short sides. How Are Rugs Made?

Within the Beni Ouarain tribe, the tradition of rug weaving is passed down from mothers to daughters. Using looms, these women create rugs that can sometimes be more than 2 meters wide and 3.5 meters long. Weaving such a rug can take over a month and involve more than a million knots. After weaving, the rug is washed with natural soap and dried in the sun, resulting in a soft texture. Perfect for walking on with your bare feet!
